The Ascesian Banner (Agar: ⰍⰀⰫⰍⰑⰉⰕⰭⰐ ⰂⰀⰎⰕⰀⰍⰫⰐⰕⰀ kaukoitạ̄n valtakunta, Rashimic: ⰁⰎⰠⰄⰍⰑⰖⰕ ⰞⰏⰠⰞⰀⰉⰅⰏ blědkout š-mešāhiem, literally "empire of the east") is a loose Banner-confederation of four essentially autonomous Vaestic Marshalates in western Ascesia - Palaimoon, Nusileh, Malagana and Posako - under the titular Emperor of Ascesia, who is the Standard-Bearer of all Ascesian Vesnites. The Banner is unique in that there is no sovereign territorial Banner-State per se: the Banner-Shrine and main residence of the Standard-Bearer are in Palaimoon, the most prominent of the Marshalates. The Banner and the Marshalates were created in 1897 by the Universal Prophet Yorsephor as part of ongoing efforts to centralise Vaestic missionary activity in the hands of the Prysostaia, at that time a controversial subject due to the Kainish controversy; the first Standard-Bearer and titular Emperor was the Agar Zeela Manaya, then latterly stood down from the office of Interrex. The Standard-Bearer's role has become increasingly active with the growth of a native infrastructure in Vaestic Ascesia, but remains largely supervisory: the four Marshals oversee most elements of policymaking.
