Harsirflói

The Harsirflói (probably from Antissan harsi, “storm”) is a large bay off the south-western coast of Messenia, forming the southern coast of Siurskeyti and the western coast of Soeria. It is fed primarily by the Esker, which reaches it some seventy kilometres (44 miles) from the border between Siurskeyti and Helminthasse, itself just a short distance downstream from the Esker’s confluence with the Þarkur. Leiðisey, the island on which stands Siurskeyti’s largest city, Reylatur, lies towards the Harsirflói’s western edge, and the Leiðisey Bridge, opened for traffic in 1998, connects the island to the mainland across the Kattörusund.
