Hathran

A hathran (from Antissan hatranta, “[it is] written”) is a form of journal maintained by many practicing Sirians, and intended both as a personal reflection on one’s own path towards ascension and as a guide to those who read it as to what steps may be taken – and which best avoided – on the way to that goal. Given that the process of ascension is imperfectly understood, the best means of achieving it has traditionally been held as lying in following the actions of those known to have themselves ascended – referred to in Siriash as emulation – and the hathrans of the most highly venerated Sirians of times past have often been collected and edited with a view to aiding that process. The importance of keeping a hathran has historically been one of the strongest drivers of the development of literacy in Sirian countries.
