The Nekhseri (Pilasite, 'Awakening') was a movement of cultural, political, and technological modernisation in northern Lestria in the late 19th and 20th centuries, primarily undertaken by local ruling elites in a top-down manner to rectify the region's perceived backwardness, and in the form of direct borrowing of knowledge and experiences of the advanced Messenian powers. While much of this enquiry, overlapping with an aphypnist movement in Lestria, was directed at the traditional Sirian countries of southern Messenia (given the Sirian upbringings of the people involved and close relations with Sirian powers such as Zeppengeran), Nekhseri movements and programs also learnt from and cooperated with Arlaturi and Cairan powers.
