In Vaestic culture, a purificationist is a Scholar who combines the functions of a medical practitioner and a psychiatrist. Purificationists are qualified to treat illnesses of the body and character and to refer patients to hospitals where necessary in case of serious physical illness. Convicted heretics and the criminally insane (the two categories are conflated) are often put into the charge of a purificationist for character reform.
