Valdenois, officially the Kingdom of Valdenois, is a member state of the Savamese Empire, located in the Sabamic Plain to the north-west of Lake Carles, in Savam's west. It is the fourth most populous Savamese states with a population of 17.9 million, and the fifth largest with an area of 50,530 square kilometres; the state's population density of 355 inhabitants per square kilometre is surpassed only by Occois-Garde, and largely above the national average of 238 inhabitants per square kilometre. The Valdenian capital city of Gué-le-Château is the state's largest and Savam's fourth largest city with a metropolitan population of 4.5 million. The state has two additional cities with populations greater than one million: Velcour at 2.1 million (Savam's twelfth), and Dolignac at 1.2 million (Savam's twentieth).

Nomenclature

Although in official documents the term Valdenois describes the state within its modern borders, in common and historical parlance Valdenois is used, and has been used, to refer to the entire region west of Lake Carles including modern Emilia. Indeed, following the union of the Principality of Emilia with the Valdenian crown in 1563 Emilia remained part of the state for three centuries before being carved out following the Embute War. During this period, and still to this day customarily in the Savamese language, Emilia was known as Lower Valdenois (Bas-Valdenois) while Valdenois proper was referred to as Upper Valdenois (Haut-Valdenois)
