The term Vaestdom generally refers to the section of the world dominated by Vaestism as a political, cultural and religious order. Although its usage occasionally varies, it tends to encompass Outer Joriscia, the colonies of various states in the Seranias along with the independent Vesnite polities there, the Ascesian Banner and, variably, other areas with significant Vesnite populations. Sometimes it is used more narrowly to refer to Outer Joriscia. The term is also often used as a translation for the Vaestic term ⰂⰟⰔⰅⰎⰅⰐⰀⰡ ⰂⰅⰄⰨⰞⰕⰟ, vŭselenaja vedǫštǔ, literally 'oecumene of the Vesnites' or 'oecumene of Knowledge', which refers to all of the territory under the effective authority of the Universal Prophet – i.e. all orthodox sections of the Vesnite world.
